The newly finished service consists of two wash down bays and several effluent dump points. The facility is also equipped with onsite amenities, including toilets and showers that are available to users of the facility, with access enabled through the Avdata key system.

In addition to an existing Gwydir Shire Council budget allocation of $935,100, Council sourced funding through the Fixing Country Truck Washes Program, which provides funding for construction of new truck washes or upgrades to existing facilities.

Gwydir Shire Council was fortunate to receive $364,900 through this program to go towards the project. The NSW Government and Australian Government each contributed 50% of total funds covered under this program.

Gwydir Shire Council Mayor John Coulton stated this project is a wonderful example of the three tiers of Government working together and went on to say how pleased he is with the finished product.

“We are very proud of our state of the art truck wash, a very modern facility.

“There has been a healthy interest shown by the industry and this facility will help to remove the effluent from our roads that falls from stock trucks.” Cr Coulton said.

Gwydir Shire Council Engineering Manager Alex Eddy said as a result of the construction of the facility, the local trucking industry now has a place where stock effluent can be removed from trucks and trailers in an environmentally appropriate fashion.

“This provides a huge benefit to the broader community through the removal of stock effluent from town streets, rural roads and other areas where effluent tanks were traditionally emptied.” Mr Eddy said.

All members of the trucking community with an Avdata key are now welcome to access the truck wash facility as of today. For further information about using the service please contact Gwydir Shire Council 02 6724 2000.
