Water Usage and Restrictions

Level 3 Water Restrictions - Warialda, Gravesend and North Star Water Supplies

Thursday 22 January 2026

Residents of Warialda, Gravesend and North Star are advised that Level 3 Water Restrictions are now in place due to Council's reduced capacity to pump water and current weather conditions generating an increased demand for water usage.

Fixed sprinklers may only be used between 8:00pm and 10:00pm on an odds and evens system.

Even street numbered houses may use their sprinklers from 8:00pm to 10:00pm Monday and Wednesday.

Odd street numbered houses may use their sprinklers from 8:00pm to 10:00pm Thursday and Saturday.

Use of handheld hoses is permitted by residents at any time of the day, however the most effective use is after 8:00pm and before 10:00am.

Council thanks you for your support and understanding during this time, especially given the continuing heat conditions.

Level 1 Water Restrictions – Bingara Water Supply

Despite substantial rainfall over the last few months, Gwydir Shire Council has made a commitment to the continuous conservation of water.

Water restrictions will now remain in place until further notice, with the use of sprinklers prohibited between 10am and 5pm.

Use of handheld hoses is permitted for watering at any time of the day, however the most effective use is after 8:00pm and before 10:00am.

Reason: Despite recent rainfalls, the drought is far from over with 45% of NSW still classified as being in some stage of drought (Dec 2025; NSW Combined Drought Indicator). Furthermore, a continuous commitment to the conservation of water is good practice to ensure future water supplies for our region
