The Model Code of Meeting Practice for Local Councils in NSW prescribes a uniform set of meeting rules for councils across NSW to ensure meetings of councils and committees of councils comprising only of councillors are open, accessible, orderly, effective, and efficient.
Following this directive, Gwydir Shire Council has generated a draft Code of Meeting Practice that incorporates the mandatory provisions of the 2025 Model Code of Meeting Practice. Council is required to consult with our community prior to adopting our Code of Meeting Practice.
In accordance with section 361 of the Local Government Act 1993 (the Act), prior to adopting our new Code of Meeting Practice, Council is required to publicly exhibit the draft Code for at least 28 days, and to also provide members of the public with at least 42 days in which to comment on the draft Code.
A report addressing the feedback from this consultation period will be presented to the February 2026 ordinary Council meeting.
